A browser device gives your widgets a home at
platform.preendisplay.com/v/<uuid>. Your Mac supplies the widgets and live data,
so keep Preen running with Private Relay enabled. Each browser device holds
one of your Preen Plus remote display slots from the moment you create it until
you delete it, whether or not a browser is connected.
Create and pair
- In Preen on your Mac, choose Add a display → Web Browser. Five icons show remote slots in use, with the available count below.
- Choose Create browser device to open your account page, or use + beside Connected devices on your account.
- Enter a name in the website modal, then create the device. If all five display slots are taken, the website says so and nothing is created.
- Return to Preen. The new device appears as Available to pair; choose Pair.
- Preen enables Private Relay and pairs this Mac. Choose Open to view the display.
Each browser device pairs with one Mac at a time. A device paired elsewhere shows that Mac’s name and a lock. Choose Unlink on its current Mac or account page before pairing it to a different Mac. Unlinking disconnects its browser but keeps its URL. A Mac can serve several devices within your remote display allowance.
The URL stays the same. You can select a widget using the browser’s picker while signed in as the owner, or assign a widget to the device from your Mac. Updates appear approximately every two seconds. Full screen expands the display; press Escape to return to the controls.
Access and one client at a time
A browser device is always private to you. Only the Preen account that owns it can open its URL; visitors who aren’t signed in are sent to the sign-in page. There is no public or shared-link mode.
Only one browser tab or client can connect to a virtual device at a time. A second client sees “Already connected. Please disconnect on the active device.” Use Disconnect in the first browser, then Connect in the second. A tab that crashes or disappears can hold its claim for up to 45 seconds.
A saved device keeps its display slot while disconnected. To free the slot, delete the device. See Preen Plus.
Content and privacy
Browser devices process widget content through Preen’s platform, which delivers it to the browser over HTTPS. The Mac-to-platform connection uses the encrypted relay protocol; this browser mode is not end-to-end encrypted between your Mac and browser. Widget content is handled in memory without being stored on the platform. Pairing credentials are stored encrypted and never given to browser clients. See the Privacy Policy.
Widgets run in a sandbox with live PREEN.onData, PREEN.pulse, PREEN.trigger,
and PREEN.db support. The canvas is dark and has no hardware cutout. Native
hardware APIs and Mac appearance pushes are not available in this initial browser
runtime.
Delete the device on your account page to disable its URL. You can also remove its pairing from Preen on the Mac.
